Video text alternative — 2022 presentation

This text version describes the on-screen information and visuals in the 66-second presentation originally published with this article on 15 September 2022. Product names, performance figures and case-history claims below reflect that historical presentation.

Digital fluid analysis and documented performance

The opening introduces “Digital Fluid Analysis” and the implementation of IMS’s real-time product line. A slide with a human–robot handshake reports more than 78,000 documented operational hours and documented average uptime above 99.5% over the preceding 12 months. A title card reads “True Real Time”.

The real-time product line

A product overview groups six names into three areas:

  • Onsite analysis tools: RheoSense for autonomous fluid analysis, including rheology, density, gels, PV and YP; RheoMax for additional fluid-analysis sensors, with examples listed as pH, ES, OWR, LGS and HGS.

  • IoT reporting tools: RheoView for real-time trending and logging of fluid-analysis sensor data; RheoReport for autonomous fluid-analysis reports distributed to predefined recipients.

  • AI automation tools: RheoAdvise for advice to fluid specialists to optimise fluid performance; RheoBrain for remote fluid-management operations.

The slide presents the intended benefits as reducing non-productive time and costs, supporting environmentally friendly fluid solutions, enabling independent fluid analysis and detecting unplanned changes in fluid parameters. It links real-time trending and reporting to treatment decisions, better hole cleaning and rate of penetration, efficient operations, reduced emissions and integration with third-party applications. It also highlights reduced human error and exposure, the green transition and longer, deeper operations.

Installation options and RheoSense animation

Four illustrated equipment configurations are labelled “Containerized”, “Integrated”, “Semi integrated/framed” and “Framed”, under the heading “Flexible solutions — standard or site specific”. A 3D animation moves through an industrial installation, approaches a RheoSense skid and shows its connection to pipework. The on-screen messages are “RheoSense”, “Digital Fluid Analysis” and “Plug and Play”.

Online asset management, monitoring and reporting

Screenshots show an asset map, fluid-data trend plots and report pages. The accompanying descriptions explain:

  • Asset management: improve asset visibility and operational continuity, and manage and track assets remotely.

  • RheoView: monitor current fluid-process events, log and track real-time data, identify trends and recognise abnormalities outside set parameters.

  • RheoMax: add instrumentation to increase the number of fluid parameters available for real-time trending and analysis.

  • RheoAdvise: gather the data stream from RheoSense and RheoMax, analyse it and provide real-time advice to the fluid specialist.

  • Reporting: the software slide uses the label “RheoPort”, while the earlier product overview uses “RheoReport”. It describes automatically emailed fluid reports containing a 24-hour historical view synchronised with the asset’s NPT clock.

Case histories shown in the video

After a “Field Proven” title card, six illustrated examples are presented:

  • Equinor Troll Field Record: a well with more than 2,000 metres vertical depth and more than 8,000 metres horizontal reach, exceeding 10,000 metres in total. The slide describes it as the world’s longest well from a floating rig at that time.

  • DrillScene integration: SINTEF’s drilling-mud properties controller (DMPC) together with RheoSense for remote analysis and treatment of drilling fluid.

  • Equinor Troll Field: an accidental addition of 2 m³ of water to the suction pit. The slide reports detection 10 minutes before an indication in pump pressure.

  • Fluid AutoMixing: SINTEF’s DMPC used with RheoSense for remotely measuring drilling-fluid properties.

  • Equinor Barents Sea: integration of RheoSense and SEKAL. The slide reports that re-drilling two sidetracks was avoided, with USD 11 million saved.

  • OMV P89TH eight-well cluster: the first deployment in an onshore environment, including winter conditions.

HSE and return-on-investment messages

The final information slide presents the following aims and estimates:

  • Align real-time fluid data with the real-time operations centre so the team works from a shared picture.

  • Improve treatment quality control from mixing lines to downhole performance; the slide estimates savings above 1% of the fluid bill per well.

  • Reduce manual sampling and improve the working environment for fluid personnel.

  • Identify fluid interfaces and reduce slops; the slide estimates savings of USD 30,000 per well.

  • Detect unplanned fluid-property changes and support preventive and planned action.

  • Set alarms to supervise trends across multiple locations.

  • Support drilling targets through increased rate of penetration and decreased non-productive time.

  • Provide remote support, software updates and specialist support to site crews.

Closing screen

The video ends with an illustration of human and robotic hands, a thank-you message and a QR code inviting viewers to visit IMS for more information.
